Both Groove Theory (Amel Larrieux and Bryce Wilson) and Lucy Pearl (Raphael Saadiq, Dawn Robinson, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad) are considered classic groups responsible for releasing one classic self-titled debut album. Unfortunately these groups never released a sophomore set.
Groove Theory exploded on the scene with their hit single “Tell Me” in 1995. Lucy Pearl did much the same with “Dance Tonight” in 2000, although the trio had considerably more hype due to the fact its members were each from prominent groups beforehand (Saadiq with Tony Toni Tone, Robinson with En Vogue, Muhammad with A Tribe Called Quest).
Both their albums are stacked with jams and these songs are still being enjoyed by many today. But which of them is better – Groove Theory or Lucy Pearl?
